Frontline, Advantix or revolution? My dog is not around cats so K9 advantix is not a problem, I just want opinions as to which works the best? I live in a high flea area
I do use heartgard, so I dont think revolution would be a good choice.

Frontline. i have heard of cases where you give the animal a dose that is too much for their weight and they ended up dying when using advantix

I worked for a vet for several years and this is what my experience is: when revolution first came out, several dogs on it ended up having heartworms after being on it. And I believe (not 100% sure) that fleas have to bite the dog for the fleas to die with revolution. That clinic no long carries revolution for this reason.
Frontline is what I’d recommend for people with really small dogs or dogs who like water, because it’s supposed to be water proof and people with small dogs tend to bathe their dogs more often than once a month, which we recommended. Frontline spray is also very cost effective for small dogs.
Advantix is also supposed to be water resistant and not only gets fleas and ticks like frontline, but also mosquitoes. I used this on my short-haired dog after I noticed mosquito bites on her and after using it, I didn’t see any mosquito bites. I think Advantix probably works faster, because Advantage works really quickly and I think it’s the same ingredient as far as fleas go. Advantage was what we’d put any dogs on who were allergic to fleas.
However, since you live in a high flea area, you may want to rotate with frontline and advantix and see what works best in your area. I’ve had success with both.

I have used frontline with good results

Any is fine. Frontline and advantix protects against fleas and ticks and the other one does not. If you live in a tick area or go hiking where the dog may get ticks use one of those. I would change in between different products every 5-6 months because the fleas may become immune to the flea treatment. Other than that it really doesn’t matter.

If you live in a high flea area, you may want to rotate between Advantix and Frontline, but stay away from revolution, as far as I know, the fleas have to actually bite the dog in order for it to be effective, which isn’t all that effective if you ask me. You have to get a prescription from the vet for either anyway, so the best thing to do is get your vet’s opinion.

I rescued my cat from a very filthy, infested house when she was a kitten. The owners did not take care of her and said I could take her or they were just going to let her live outside.
She was so covered with fleas that it made me not want to touch her for too long, and it made me very sad.
The only thing I could use on her was revolution, because she was so young.
I have never had a flea since.
Though if you live in an infested area you will continue to have problems until you treat the entire area.

Frontline Plus is the best. And it is the safest of the three. Advantix has been known to cause seizures in many animals.

You actually have fleas?? If you don’t have fleas currently, don’t treat ..

If you wanna use an all in one then do revolution as it is heartworm prevention as well. I’ve heard some vets say that it doesn’t work as well on fleas. Frontline is more water resistent than Advantix. I know during this past summer vets where I work were telling people to apply flea prevention every 3 weeks if they were having bad problems, BUT NO SOONER. Don’t know where you’re from, but fleas were really bad this summer in Texas. Personally I like revolution for cats and frontline for dogs with a seperate heartworm prevention.

I use Frontline, My dog is allergic to fleas and I have to be very careful about her being bitten even once, as it will cause welts and rashes. She has had almost NO outbreaks since using frontline.
There is however a new flea/tick/mosquito comming out soon, from the Advantix company. Made of a completly new substance, Its been rated as the number 1 safest flea product so far, it also is supposed to kill fleas in 2 to 3 hours. I also hear its suposed to be cheaper than frontline or advantix.
I work for a vet office and we have a rep comming from advantix in a few weeks to tell us all about it. I dont remember the name… somthing with a dash and number…
Anyways, untill that comes out, I’d go with frontline ; )

In the vet we used Frontline and in the kennel I used Frontline for my dogs. I always found it to be the best.
I did have occasion to use advantix a few times but just didn’t like it that much.
I didn’t live it that high of a flea area but every dog that came into the kennel seemed to drop a few flees.
I gave my dogs Frontline 12 months a year and never had any problems with them or with fleas.

My Recommendation is Advantage (not Advantix) if you’re just treating for fleas. If you need heartworm protection also (do you use Heartgard?)Then Frontline is probably what you’ll want – HOWEVER, the reason I prefer Advantage over all the others is that Advantage DOES NOT go into the bloodstream. It absorbs through the skin to the layer of fat just below. From there it spreads through out the body. All a flea has to do is touch the dog’s (or cat) fur to be treated. It covers the pet in 24 hours. It does not go into the bloodstream. Frontline and all the other products have to go to the bloodstream in order to treat for heartworm, ticks, worms, and earmites. I’m just not comfortable with that. And I’m not entirely convinced they work for the other problems. And I had Revolution cause my cat serious reactions. I use Advantage only, and only if I need it.

Depends what you want really, they’re all slightly different. Well, Frontline and Advantix do the same thing – fleas and ticks – but Frontline Plus has the edge for flea control as it kills the flea eggs and larvae too. Revolution covers fleas, ear mites, sarcoptic mange and roundworms. There’s also Advocate from vets, which does the widest spectrum of things – adult fleas and larvae, heartworm, roundworm, mites – can’t remember them all, but it’s a lot! It’s probably the more expensive though.
If fleas are the main problem, I’d go with Frontline Plus. Not every treatment works for everyone though, so just switch to Advantix if you don’t like Frontline Plus, or any of the others depending on what you want treated!
