Neighbors lab?
Ben asked:
I Have a neighbor that just adopted a 2 year old lab. He's nice, except he barks and barks non stop. I have talked to the neighbor, and he doesn't know what to do. He's tried anti bark collars, and he says that De-barking is NOT an option.
If I were to report him, would the dog be taken away and put down for excessive barking? I'd **** for that to happen, because I'm on good terms with the neighbor at the moment, except for his barking dog. The LAST thing I'd want is for this thing to escalate.
UPDATE: No, I did NOT suggest De-barking, nor would I ever recommend such a horrible procedure. To me, that's like cutting out a baby's voicebox because he cries too much. Bottom line: IT'S WRONG. Another neighbor suggested it. (probably to upset him.)

The dog shouldn’t be outdoors full-time in the first place.
The owner needs to bring the dog indoors and take it to obedience training.
Also, de-barking is just cruel so do not request him do that to the poor dog.

No, a pet can not be euthanized for excessive barking! Training works!

If you neighbor was the considerate type he would take the dog in the house when he barks.
Suggest to your neighbor that he ****** the thing with a hose when he won’t stop.
Sorry if I sound snarky, but I would never put my neighbors through what yours is doing to you.

Labs need a lot of interaction and stimulation, he’s probably bored. Suggest that your neighbor get some kong toys. (the kind that you put treats into, and the dog has to work to get them out.)

Tell your neighbors to get off their lazy arses and walk their dog. I own 2 Labs and neither dog bark.. why? Cause they get exercise and the discipline they need.. so tell them to walk their dog an hour a day or more.. Labs are active breeds meant to go all day in the field with their master retrieving birds. My neighbors Golden barks and barks all day cause she’s locked in her yard 24/7 and doesn’t actually go for walks. If you call animal control or something, they will fine the owner and possibly take the dog away and put it back up for adoption. My grandparents have a shock bark collar for their hound mix that when he barks it shocks him and if he continues to bark it shocks him at a higher level. Its mean, but if they won’t take proper care of the dog and want to keep him, that’s the way to go.

He needs to find out why he is barking, it could be down to boredom, why not offer to walk him, that will wear him out and then he will sleep and not bark. If he has only just got him he may need time to settle in, he could be nervous and stressed, he may calm down and stop barking once he gets used to his new surrounding and knows there is nothing to be scared of.

He can be taught to not bark with proper training. You can actually train him to bark once or twice and then stop. They can learn but it takes time.
If you cannot find instructions, email me and I’ll give you some suggestions. Too wordy for here.

The dog is obviously bored. It needs some attention. Does he walk the dog at least twice a day and play catch or frisbee with it? Labs are large dogs and need real exercise. Maybe you could go biking with the dog. If the dog barks during the night, he should bring the dog into the house, or at least a garage where the dog knows that the owner is not too far away. Labs are very intelligent and social animals and cannot be left outside with nothing to do, no place to go, nothing to stimulate them. Your neighbour must learn how to be a responsible pet owner.
At least he is smart enough to refuse to go with debarking.

You should suggest that your neighbor take the dog to obedience training ASAP. A trainer will really help find a solution because he/she will be able to tell why the dog is barking so much. Plus, you should certainly demand that he keep his dog inside if it’s outside barking all the time. I didn’t even know they could de-bark dogs?! That sounds terrible, who would do that?!??

i don,t know where you live ,but get your dog a food ball all dogs are hunters /scavengers and a food ball once loaded with pellets of food will have them rolling the ball all around their space trying to get food from the ball.the ball has holes in it and the dog has to continually nudge it with its nose to get its treats.result. 1 happy dog. no barking. pets r us or somewhere like that
good luck.
