Kate H. asked:

He recently got the 1st shot of the Lyme Disease shot and won't be able to get the second shot for 2 weeks ( the trip is this weekend) Will the 1st shot and a new application of K9 Advantix be sufficent for this short trip?

I don’t know if Advantix does this, but there’s a product called Vectra 3D ( i’m not sure how many places carry this), but it doesn’t only kill the ticks, it in essence repels them…the dog doesn’t have to be bitten for the tick to die…this is because the way the product works is that it paralyzes the tick, flea or mosquito as soon as it comes in contact with it. If your only option is to use tick prevention, I recommend this product or a product that contains the same active ingredient.
There’s the link to the info.

You will still need to check him for ticks and remove any you find every day.

the advantix is more benificial to your dog then the vaccine will be. research shows that up to 90% of all dogs show some level of antibodies for lymes without having been bitten by a infected tick.
The vacine has side effects such as actually giving your dog a untreatable case of the disease it is designed to prevent , and kidney disease amoung others.

Take your dog, use a tick repellant and make sure to check him nightly for ticks. They have to remain attached for over 48 hours to transfer the disease to the dog.

The tick has to bite him for some time for him to get the disease. If you’ll have the time. Brush him out really good once or twice a day. That should also help you from picking up a tick from him. Hay have fun!!
