Miz Anthrope you are INCORRECT>
Products containing Permethrins REPELL external insects, such as flies, mosquitos, midgies, fleas, ticks. They also kill the ones that werent repelled.

I use and preferr Advantix, it contains the afore mentioned Permethrins.

EDIT: So smarty pants Miz Anthrope, NEED MORE PROOF????????? Why dont you call the conpanies that make products that CONTAIN PERMETHRINS and ask them WHY THEY USE IT!?!?!?
=
ADD: I thought I should also add that I DONT have flea problems.

Sentinel. I have tried all the others, but Sentinel is the one that eliminates all fleas. Of course, one has to have their veterinarian administer the heartworm test first. If your dog has never had heartworm, then the vet has to give your dog a prescription. It takes care of all fleas, eliminates most worms and prevents your dog from getting heartworm. Once a month you administer a tiny pill wrapped in a piece of meat. It is the simplest and actually the least expensive in the long run, as it takes care of three different things. Otherwise, you have to buy pills for the prevention of heartworm, worming meds and one of the topical flea prevention items on the market. None of the other meds that you have mentioned work as well. Since I have been using Sentinel, I have not seen a flea on any of my three dogs and I have been using it now for three years. Prior to that I invested in all the most expensive veterinarian topicals, which were so so at best. The over the counter from the drugstores are worthless. Sentinel is amazing.

I have always had great success with Revolution with my dogs and neither have ever had fleas. When my older dog was younger the vet used Sentinel and I didn’t find it to be as affective if you are at dogparks etc… alot Is there a natural remedy out there that works???

I prefer K9 Advantix, based on its reputation but have not had the opportunity to use it, as we’ve been living with our in-laws who have a cat. K9A can be lethal to cats in the household.

Right now I use Frontline Plus.

I lived and worked in Thailand, with dogs, and there fleas and ticks are overwhelming. However, I used frontline plus on dogs I treated and took care of, and never saw a flea or tick after that – which there was quite an achievement. In UK I have always used Frontline Plus with huge success – no crawlies. I gather the ‘plus’ Frontline version somewhat better than the standard one in that any existing fleas which lay eggs prior to death, the eggs will not hatch. The one key thing I discovered is that it appears the best, most effective treatments are only available via a vet prescription, suggesting some brands which you can buy over the counter may not be as efficient. I stand to be corrected on that of course. Just remember, fleas are likes nits – it takes two or three treatments before all are totally erradicated. Thus if your pet has an infestation, you need to deal with those which will most definitely be lurking about on the carpets and furniture. The fleas only get on the pet to feed, then jump off and hide back in dark places prior to the next meal! So fleas on your animal will mean fleas in your home. A good flea spray for the home is Acclaim, doesn’t smell or stain. Good luck – and hope you stay flea and tickless!

I personally prefer K9 Advantix, but have used Frontline Plus and Promeris.
For Miz Anthrope : Time to update your info. Promeris is transdermal. A flea only needs to come into contact with the dog to absorb the medication which quickly paralyzes the little booger.

I personally prefer K9 Advantix simply because it is the only one that protects not only against fleas and ticks, but mosquitoes as well. Frontline Plus is great too. I work at Petco part time and a lot of people return and complain that Advantage never lasts the entire 4 weeks. My aunt uses Revolution on all three of her Yorkies with no problems, you just can only get that through your vet.
