K so I went to Petco the other day shopping around for flea preventatives for my pooch because I didnt want to spend money to pay for a vet visit to get the stuff when I already had one and he told me what I should use.
I thought k9 advantix and others like it are only available from your vet??!? they had them there on the shelf..
So now Im confused. I went ahead and bought it. $50 too much? would it have been cheaper to go through the vet??
My Vet recommended the K9 and some other one, and I said I would think about it. So it came as a shock to see it just hanging there.

It wouldn’t have been cheaper but it would have been safer.
Flea meds don’t need a script, however Bayer & Merial, the makers of Frontline, Advantage & Advantix do not distribute their products to anyone other then licensed vets (clearly says this on their sites) plus the drug reps for those that work for vets will tell you this as well.
Buying these products from sources other then a licensed vet is risky.

They do sell it sometimes, but Advantix is the worst one you can use. It’s sooooooo powerful and the chemicals are really strong. I’d suggest Frontline or Interceptor or Revolution. (Only given by a vet).
By the way, $50 is not a bad deal if you got a 4 month or more supply. I work at a vet, and ours is like $60-$70.

Yeah, Petco, has to have a vet on call, cuz they have live animals for sale. the cost of the Advanix went o pay his cost. Your local vet would have probably been less.

Frontline and Advantage/Advantix used to be a prescription only product, but have now been deregulated. You are getting the same product that you would purchase at your vet’s office.

The vet is usually more expensive but they can sell you one vial at a time in case you can’t afford the 3 or 6 pack at one clip. I get all our flea stuff and heartworm stuff at or petcarerx

Nope, all flea and tick remedies are available without a prescription or vet. You can even buy them online for much cheaper than stores usually sell them. They’re no different or more dangerous than buying through a vet.

I trust my vet more, but he is much more expensive then 1800PETMEDS and Petco or PetSmart. I have never had a problem with Petco.

Whatever your vet recommends you should get. My dog has to have intercepter because advantix would be to strong for her. If your vet recommended advantix there isnt a problem buying it from petco at all its the same thing. Im not sure if your vet would be cheaper but i would compare the prices. Hope this helps =)
