So I’m a dog owner, he’s about 4 years old.what would you recommend for fleas and ticks?

nanall asked:

I've heard about frontline and k9 advantix..
Which would you use or recommend if you have used them?
Are there any others that could be better?

My dog was on K9 Advantix for a year or more but he then developed an allergy to it so I switched to Revolution (which is a flea medication and heart worm preventative in one).

I use Revolution because it works well for my dogs. It is heartworm, flea, tick, and mite preventative wrapped up into one that is given once a month. My mom uses frontline for her danes and it works fine, I just prefer mine since it covers all the critters and I don’t have to do heartworm seperately. So I guess it just depends on what you want.

It really depends on the lifestyle that your pet lives. If he likes to swim or get constant baths, i recommend Frontline Plus (for ticks also) because it is an oil base and it would stay on his skin longer.

If he will mainly stay dry, then Advantix would be a good choice. That one is an alcohol base, so it would remain on his skin fine.

It is mostly what you prefer and what your pet likes, keep an eye on him when you do apply the flea/tick preventative because on some rare occasions, it may cause an allergic reaction. A sign could be hair loss or skin irritation.

Hope that this helps. : )

Frontline is best for fleas and ticks. Especially if you have a problem with Ticks Frontline, definitely works best.

If you are just worried about just fleas Comfortis pill is great!

I have 5 dogs, and once had a flea problem in our home. We put the dogs on frontline immediately, and all of them disappeared. If you purchase frontline, you should aim for the frontline plus if your dog likes water. That one is water resistant. We used frontline for about 5 years and then swithched to k9 advantix because fleas can become immune to one brand after so long. There are also powders at feed stores that you can purchase for a quick fix, though i do not recommend them as a permanant solution. Whichever you choose, it is best to keep the dog from getting wet two days before application, and two days after. This helps it work at its utmost potential.

There’s been problems with the weakness and ineffectiveness of Frontline. See below.
/found problems with K9 Advantix though, see below.
    Couldn’t find problems with Advantage.
You might want to try another brand.

i know alot of ppl dont believe me but if your pets (dog or cat) have fleas you need to wash them with “DAWN” dish liquid it really work’s! I mean as you are washing the animal the fleas are dying and you see them fall off dead in the tub!!! TRY IT, IT REALLY WORK’S!!!!!!!!

My vet recommends Frontline. My puppy had fleas when we got her, and I’ve notices a significant reduction in her scratching. She seems much happier :)

    Good luck

Revolution-it’s way better than any of those others. Kills fleas, ticks and worms-last longer too.
