anti-social dog?

Trbld1 asked:

HELP!! my Dog is really anti-social and defensive. He is as soft as butter with me and my family but anybody that comes near the house or to me that he doesnt know he will go balistic (cry, shout, bark,or attack)
I cant have friends over to my house much anymore, because of him. How can i solve his agression?

    anti bark

Work with a trainer to correct his behavior.

When people come over, keep the dog on a leash and have them offer him a toy or treat so he sees them as a friend instead of a threat – As far as he’s concerned, he’s only trying to protect his family from outsiders.

Your dog is showing its side that is saying its my family don’t mess with it….
when friends come over make him remain on the leash or in a pen and allow ur friends/guests to give him toys or dog treats but if giving treats not to many at one stage… cause other wise he may get to used to it and then get snappy when it doesn’t always work that way.
But just start with a few select friends and have them over for a far few periods of time and allow the dog to make friends with them first and then the dog should remember them as friends not foe

i had the exact same problem with my dog and last week i went to a specialist

he said you have to show the dog you are pack leader – not his friend. he is barking at everyone else because he thinks he needs to protect you.
you must make sure he is 100% great with basic training especially healing to you.
you can play fetch with him as this helps him to know you are in control of the game and always go out the house first.

try taking him on a walk you need to keep him on a lead to start with and buy him a gindog lead/choke chain and when ever he starts to pull towards someone else you need to yank him back straight away and yell at him in a stern voice ( this sounds bad, but if you just do this for a few days it should make a massive difference)

you should then only let him off the leash when you know you are in control of him. when he is good you sould be able to let him sit and stay while to open the dorr to let your friends in.

i just watched this type of thing on “its me or the dog” last night and i also have the same problem with my corgi beagle mix. the lady said use a kids bike horn or canned air and every time the dog barks or growls honk the horn or do the canned air next to it and it deters the dog from doing a negative thing like that and it shows that only minimal barking will be tolerated. i am going today to get some canned air for my dog but it seemed to help on the program and they has a pomeranian that was bad aggressive and anti friendly

Dogs cover their fear with either submission or aggression.
