She weighs 7.5 lbs, and is a flea magnet! We live in the country and so she does go outside for short periods of time. We also have another housedog that goes outside for about the same time periods, and the frontline does a great job keeping him flea free. I am thinking of trying either revolution or K9 Advantix. We tried the Advantage years ago on other dog, and it didn't work at all. Help please!

It takes about 6 months for it to be fully effective!
In the mean time just use flea shampoo every 2 weeks and a flea comb everyday.

Well firstly, find somewhere for your dog to stay for a week or so. A friends house perhaps, the garage- somewhere out of the house.
Whilst he’s gone wash all bedding and clothing on a hot wash, thoroughly clean all carpets and upholstry, and keep all clothing in wardrobes, keeping everything clean and tidy away in drawers means that fleas won’t infest everywhere.
If you are willing, flea bomb the whole house, this will mean you also need to be out of the house for about a day.
When they come back- take them to a dog groomers. They should be washed, their fur should be brushed to remove any loose hairs, and you should check his fur for any fleas.
Next step is to pay a visit to the vets, they will give him a tablet which stays in his system for 3 months, it costs yeah, but it is very effective and at the end of the day it’s a few payments per year to keep the fleas away.
Next buy him an anti flea collar, some bob martins tick and flea repellant drops, and some anti flea shampoo to wash him with every 4-6 weeks.
Wash his bedding on a hot wash regularly and try to keep him off furnature and beds until the problem is sorted.
Worked for me =]
Good luck

You do realize there are chemicals in these products right? Double dosing every month is NOT good for the dog. If your dog is continuously getting infested, you need to treat the environment.
We used to use Frontline Plus, but still ended up with fleas. We switched to K9 Advantix and havent had any problems for 3 yrs.
When we made the switch, we gave Capstar, waited 12 hr and applied the K9-Advantix. The Capstar works up to 24 hrs, and by applying the topical 12 hrs after giving Capstar, it gives enough time for the topical to disperse over the body!

Frontline quit working here, Florida-Tampa Bay, about a year ago and we switched to Advantage. It doesn’t do ticks but we don’t have a tick problem..

i have read through the other ideas..and i liked them all…but something that wasnt mentioned that you could also try…is a pesticide that you spray around the perimider of the house….it works magic along with doing the keeping the bedding cleaning..using flea drops and regular bathing with flea soap…we had the same problem, and the spraying outside was what changed it for us….maybe you could give it a try…

firstly, frontline is not effective on all dogs. i use revolution and have never had a problem with it. if u have used advantage befor and it hasnt worked, it is not likely that the advantix will work either as it uses the same active ingredient for the fleas. revolution is different to both frontline and advantage.
secondly, to increase the effectiveness of any spot on flea control, the following must be adhered to:
1. is the dog completely dry before applying the treatment? if your dog has been freshly bathed or wet in another way, you should wait at least 24 hours before applying the product, to ensure that all aeas of the dog are 100% dry.
2. keep the dog dry for at least 48hrs afterwards, so that the product has taken full effect and is completely waterfast.
3. what shampoo do you use on your dog and how often do you bath it? when spot on treatments come into effect, they travel all over the dogs body through the hair follicles and the natural oils occuring in the dogs skin. if you use the wrong shampoo (eg harsh flea shampoos) they strip the natural oils from the dogs skin preventing the products from working properly or at all. if you have already aplied the product it will strip it from the skin too. similarly, if a dog is bathed too frequently, it can do the same thing. bathing a dog too frequently will also make the dog smell more. try bathing your dog once every 2-4 weeks instead of on a weekly basis. i reccomend the fidos range of shampoos as they are soap free, but any good oatmeal shampoo is good too. please dont use human shampoo or soap as these make things even worse.
it will help too to wash all the bedding in hot water and woolwash, or to replace the bedding. you can get anti flea surface sprays too so invest in one of these for the areas the dog frequents.
if you follow the above guidelines you may even find that the frontline will work.
also, can you actually see the fleas or is the dog just scratching a lot? some dogs suffer from what is known as flea allergy dermatitis. its like people being allergic to mosquitos. one bite and they itch and itch like crazy. other dogs can be covered in fleas and not scratch as they do not have the allergy. please take this into consideration.
if you cant see the fleas it could also be a grass or food allergy causing the itch. never assume a dog has fleas just because it scratches. normally if one dog or pet has fleas they all will.
good luck, i hope you find a solution to your problem and your dog is flea free soon!
k9 advantix
I use revolution and love it. I have 4 dogs who are all on the once a month treatment and there isn’t a flea in sight. If you are worried about ticks because revolution is not for ticks, use the preventic collar. It is excellent.

How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home
You will need to purchase a simple bug/fly zapper; the type you use on a patio to kill flying insects. You can buy a small one that will cover a large area of your house at most home improvement stores for as little as 15.00-20.00 dollars. For faster results you can use one bug zapper for each room. However the fleas do gravitate to the bug zapper’s light once night sets in and all the lights in your house are out. So one should work for a small home, just make sure to place it in the room where the most fleas are seen or felt. Place the zapper on the floor in a corner behind a piece of furniture so kids and pets won’t play with or bother it. Set it on a plate or pie tin for easy cleaning up of the zapped bugs, you will be killing all bugs in your home as well, and then plug it in. Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment. You have to use caution in where you put it. At night the fleas automatically want to go to a light, when they hop in to the bug zapper light they get fried! You can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting zapped! All GONE! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster!! I am not responsible for misuse of the above item. Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place. It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on. The bulb can be replaced once it burns out. The light bulb can be purchased at most home improvement stores.
