Dog breathing heavy during the day and panting at night?

The last three days my dog has seemed to be breathing a bit heavier than usual and he is panting at night. Other than his breathing, I have not noticed any change in his routine, ie his eating habits, amount that he drinks, energy level, etc. I have not switched his food or anything but I did apply K9 Advantix to him this week. could this be the problem?
It is not because he is hot. My house is air conditioned and the environment is the same as it has been. He drinks plenty of water and it is not due to dreams because he is not asleep, he is just laying there panting. I was curious about the Advantix because that is the only thing out of the ordinary that I have done this week.
