My dog is on flea medication all year and I spotted a flea?

Tuesday Sep 15, 2009

Nicki asked:

After I found the one, I searched for more and have seen nothing! I have him on K9 Advantix and he has never missed a dose. He is outside in a new yard with a whole lot of trees! Is it possible that one just jumped on and is trying to move in, but is shielded and just hasnt jumped off or died yet? I am freaking out, I **** the thought of itchy bugs on my dog. Any comments please?

The way flea treatment works is to kill fleas that bite the dog. The flea probably had not bit him yet and you just happened to see him. I wouldn’t worry about it unless your dog becomes infested.

Your dog will probley be fine. Don’t worry about it! If you see another one you should tell the vet that it is not working.

Talk to your vet, because different flea medications do not all work the same, particularly where I live in San Diego. Try Frontline or Revolution. Switching up flea medication periodically is a good idea anyway.
