FL inventor asked:
Where can this lady find a solution? God has not helped her- yet.
Single lady (61?) loves her “babies”, but they might bark when she is away for a few hours. Anything can get them barking from squirrels, people who enter a joint driveway area, workmen, kids next door, etc. Drives one retired neighbor so nuts he calls police weekly. He has even made several verbal threats of death to her and her the dogs. She tried an outdoor electronic anti-bark device ($85- it was useless), and individual bark shock collar’s ($40/ea) that worked about 3 days, but then failed. Is anti-bark surgery expensive?
Do muzzle’s work?.
I told her I would try to get some info to help her before she gets even more fines or worse.
She refuses to get rid of even 1 of them, or move.
The city (Largo, FL) says they could take her house away. (daily fines of $250- $500 have NOT started yet).
Sure, she’s probably a bit “off” normal, but isn’t that true of many stubborn people. Any serious advice?

God did not let her down. She let herself down. Quit blaming God for what people choose to do.
She chose to break the law. That is not in keeping with God’s word. We are to obey the law of the land. She is wrong. And now she is facing the consequences. God didn’t do it to her, she did it to herself.
Maybe she needs to revisit the word of God and so do you before you start blaming God for things humans do. He gives us free will. If we choose the wrong path, that is our fault.
As far as advice, she needs to get rid of the dogs if she cannot take care of them. And obviously, she can’t. She needs to pay her fines and apologize for bothering her neighbors. Then she needs to clean up her act completely and realize that we are to put human beings before animals.

Unless you’re breeding, 14 is probably against the law. Anything more than 5 is kind of disgusting. Start finding homes for these babies.

She needs to train the dogs not to bark. Tell her to go to obedience classes or something.

Surgery will not change anything. Have you ever heard a debarked dog? It barks as much if not even more and the sound is even more annoying then a real bark.
If she wants to keep her lifestyle, Her solution is to move in a house outside Largo in a place where the neighbours are far and the dogs will have a large land.
We live in society and she has to obey the rules of this society like the rest of us.

stupid is as stupid does….maybe God will find her a farm to live on and she can get more ‘babies’

That many dogs in one area is not healthy for humans or the animals.
Even if you could keep them all clean and fed, there’s still the matter of raw sewage. One or 2 dogs is one thing, 14 is a mess.
Not to mention that no one can give 14 dogs the individual attention that each of them need and deserve.
Tell her “mothers” sacrifice much for their “babies”. Tell her that if she really loved them, she’d improve all of their lives.

I have contacted the Largo, Fl,police department after reading this, they have not as of today had any calls of any type of this nature, was not aware of any such violations, and could not levy fines on elderly of her age,but would work to help her, per the pd and sheriffs department, and before taking even one dog per the Sheriffs office would involve the local ASPCA to help her out..
is this a prank or what.
Paralegal (19 yrs) and they also contacted the DA’s office which knows nothing of any complaints of this nature.
where did you get your information..
I see the Troll is back….
another bit of info on this story, the City has no reports of this either, per the Sheriff’s department, they just called me back, on this one……..so if the city wants it stopped also, why then is there no complaints of any kind filed??????????

If she seriously doesn’t want to get “rid” of any I would advise you to ask her if she would like “surrogate” homes in a way. She can visit them daily and she isn’t risking getting her home revoked and ultimately causing more pain to herself or the dogs. De-barking for 14 dogs is going to be expensive- very expensive! Around where I live de-barking prices range from about 275-700$ a dog. Not to mention that after debarking, more helath problems are prone to rise and that when they try to bark like usually an odd sound is still made.. Muzzles are used to stop biting and I guess can deter barking but sounds can still be made but I guess the noises aren’t as loud. Get one that still allows for drinking of water however so they dont go thirsty. A lot of dogs can jsut pull these off so I would reccomend to her that she should buy one and try it on each of her dogs making sure they cant reamove them before she goes all out and buys 13 more.
Hope it helps and best of luck.

Anti-bark surgery is cruel. It is hard on the animal, if there are any complications it can affect swallowing and they can breathe abnormally. Also it doesn’t truly take away the ability to bark, they can still make noise. The volume might be somewhat diminished, but the sound they do make is almost more annoying…like barking with a sore throat, that rough/hoarse noise. And yes, it is expensive.
Perhaps for the dogs and the owners own good, a social service counselor should be called in. Perhaps explain to the owner that the city could reposess the dogs and euthanize them if she does not adopt some of them out to good homes. 14 dogs is a lot for any person. What happens if they all got sick at once, how could she afford their Vet care?
What kind of quality of life would the dogs have if they needed to be muzzled every time she left? Muzzles do not harm themselves, but the dogs could do injury to themselves trying to get them off or get the muzzles caught on things in the yard/house while she is away.
She could try calling a professional dog trainer to help try to teach the dogs to be quiet/calm.
No offense but this lady is more than just stubborn. She may see the dogs as her “babies” but how is that true if she is willing to try shocking them to be quiet, risk the neighbour poisoning them or the city euthanizing them instead of giving a few to loving homes? If she doesn’t have any family that can get through to her, perhaps she needs a professional counselor to help her and her dogs.
Best of luck.

There really isn’t any advice to give.
Muzzles will keep them from biting, but not complete barking.
Anti-bark surgery? Not sure I have heard of that one.
She seems to be her own worst enemy.
The city can also come in and take her dogs from her, though I don’t know the laws where you live, she may even be liable for the cost of housing the dogs in a shelter until homes can be found of the cost of putting them down if they aren’t in a “no kill” shelter, and that can be on top of all types of fines.
She also needs to consider what she is putting her neighbors through-even if she is a little off, does she really want to take the chance of someone getting upset to the point they harm the dogs? It can happen, and she would be at fault for not taking control.
If she loves these dogs as much as she says she does, she either needs to find good homes for a dozen of them or move to a place where they can bark their little heads off and no one would hear.
Create a video blog…instantly.
debark
downsize
move
Pray for God’s just judgment to fall.
Those are the only options I can think of off the top of my head.
Debarking is not cruel at all. There is no blood, and it takes less than 5minutes. It is less invasive than a spay. Actually it is less invasive than removing dewclaws.

I agree with the debarking, each dog will have a whisper bark each unique to their own. A debarked dog can still bark, but the neighbors won’t hear it and when considering re-homing a beloved pet, this is mentally healthy for them, then to have to keep being from place to place till they find “their” home.
Poodle rescue will be able to help your Aunt with answers to her problem. They are experts with this breed and can give you solid advice, or even go to the AKC.org page and look for the poodle breed club, they can also advice you of people in your area that can help.

God helps those who help themselves. This is not God’s situation, it’s hers. 14 dogs is way too many. She needs to contact poodle rescue and find most of these dogs a new home. There is no way she can be giving all of these 14 dogs a good home, and I would wonder if there might not be some neglect in the home. Muzzling is definately NOT the answer. Please try to convince her to help her “babies” by finding them appropriate homes before she loses all of them as well.

Moving would be the best solution. Whatever she does, she still has to deal with the nasty, crazy neighbor. Even if the barking stops, she is stuck with the nut. Why not hold a prayer vigil for him to move out of the neighborhood?
Debarking is the next solution. Many show dogs are debarked. It’s not cruel. People who say that have never been involved with the procedure. It’s a ten minute operation that is honestly less trouble than any operation.
I can’t believe they could take her house away. That is just an empty threat. It may have been made by the nasty neighbor rather than an authority from the city.
