Lady from Church has 14 poodles. Needs help. Neighbors and City want quiet. Fines may go into thousands?

FL inventor asked:

Where can this lady find a solution? God has not helped her- yet.
Single lady (61?) loves her “babies”, but they might bark when she is away for a few hours. Anything can get them barking from squirrels, people who enter a joint driveway area, workmen, kids next door, etc. Drives one retired neighbor so nuts he calls police weekly. He has even made several verbal threats of death to her and her the dogs. She tried an outdoor electronic anti-bark device ($85- it was useless), and individual bark shock collar’s ($40/ea) that worked about 3 days, but then failed. Is anti-bark surgery expensive?
Do muzzle’s work?.
I told her I would try to get some info to help her before she gets even more fines or worse.
She refuses to get rid of even 1 of them, or move.
The city (Largo, FL) says they could take her house away. (daily fines of $250- $500 have NOT started yet).
Sure, she’s probably a bit “off” normal, but isn’t that true of many stubborn people. Any serious advice?

do anti barking devices work?

Katy Cruel asked:

I am thinking about getting an indoor anti barking unit from HAMMACHER SCHLEMMER
http://www.hammacher.com/Product/76825
and I don’t know what will happen with 3 dogs? when one barks, they will all get the sound. Will they all learn at once? I have a beagle, a beagle/basset, and a greyhound/dobie. So I have lots of barking. Anybody have experience with this?
did any of you PETA morons actually read the description of the Item? Did I mention Shock Collars? It uses sound. Yes, a high pitched sound that scares them about as much as me yelling at them.
If you have some preconceived answer and opinion, keep it to yourself. I’m looking for an informed answer from someone intelligent who took the time to read the question.
Ellen…edit was not directed @ you, but those who kept talking about a completely different product. sorry.

Help! i have to start keeping my barking dog outside, neighbours will **** it?

tinafromoz asked:

Hi. i have a 2yr old male mini fox terrier. He’s a much loved pet and has always been a bit of an indoors dog. I have a good sized back yard and he comes in and out as he pleases (he usually opts to stay inside) and i’ve recently started him sleeping in the garage of a night time instead of in my bed. My problem however is that he barks! a lot! It’s just him, he’s very territorial and he’s a ‘yapper’, i’ve actually had a complaint from a neighbour once about it. But i’m 4 months pregnant and i will be moving him outside permanantly in the next couple of months. I just know he’s going to go nuts with the barking and howling to come inside though (not to mention what he’s going to do if he sees a cat). My neighbours just wont put up with him barking at 3am! I’ve looked into getting one of those anti-barking collars and i’ll be able to loan one for free for 2 weeks only. I need some money conscious dog-friendly ideas please.
ok, well when i initially bought him a baby wasn’t something i was considering at that time, but of course plans change. I have no intention of being cruel to my dog, our outdoor area is well sheltered and comfortable and myself and 10 year old do spend a fair amout of time outside and would both make an effort to spend more time with him outside to help him adjust – i wouldn’t abandon him. I live in an area of australia that’s very kind weather-wise too even in winter, but yeah he wouldn’t like not having his 24/7 human contact taken away. I have simply assumed that an indoor dog and a baby just dont mix though? There’s always going to be a certain amount of dog hair despite grooming, plus what he may bring in from outside, and toddlers seem to have a natural ability to poke and prod animals in sensitive areas lol. i would constantly supervise, but there’s always those 3 seconds that you have your back turned you know? There must be some way to kindly adjust him to outdoor living?
I don’t know why it seems like such an issue but in my experience, most people i know that have dogs do keep them outside and they’re happy, healthy and still loved members of the family. I know there’ll be work involved but i don’t think it’ll be impossible to adjust him comfortably to outdoor living

Debarking Surgery?

ella_luv_ya asked:

My Yorkie sounds like a blow horn. Overall she is a good dog, she is litter box trained, leash trained and know commands. She just has a very high pitched bark. I have tried everything, from water spray and two different anti-bark collars. None of it has worked. I have even tried to tire her out by running with her three times a day. She just seems to enjoy barking. The only way to keep her from barking would be to put her on my lap or face to face with me. If I need to go to the bathroom, she has to follow, otherwise she barks. Even when I go to turn off the light she starts to bark. It would be ok if her bark matched her body but unfortunately it can be heard from a block away. Recently, a friend told me about the debarking surgery. Please let me know where this can be done or if there is another way to help her. I love her dearly but I can’t stand anymore and neither can my neighbors. The last thing I want to do is give her away. Please advise.
Methods I have tried & failed:
She has been trained since she was 10wks. I have tried the spay bottle, the spay collor, the shock collor,& the anti-bark machine that rings really loud. I have sat with her, pretending to ignore her, until she stops. She doesn’t stop.
I have talked to people who say it’s cruel to debark her & that retraining her would be the best. After allowing them to “retrain” her, they all come back in less than six hours, telling me they give up & thank god its not their dog. My neighbors are mostly elderly people, w/less than good hearing, so for them so say that she’s bothering them is saying something. I do have another dog, who barks but doesn’t over do. She get really upset when this yorkie barks and will leave the room & find somewhere quite. I really do love my this dog & I have tried many methods but none has worked. She is never w/out food, water, toys, treats, companion & she gets a workout 3xs a day. I have nothing against barking but her is too much!
I not thinking about debarking because it’s a quite fix. I have attempted many others methods. If you have any advice, I’m willing to try it. If there is another way I would gladly take it.
The barker, Princess Sofie, is a year and a half.

How to get dogs to stop barking, they are being guard dogs?

Why would they name me Barbie? asked:

We have not gotten a complaint “yet” as our apt manager has put it, but we need to get our 2 dogs to stop barking when people come by the apt.

The problem is I don’t want to teach them not to bark AT ALL, which sorta leaves out the anti-barking collars.

What is a good way to teach them to bark when someone approaches the house, but not at every car/person who walks by the backyard or street? And to bark a few times then stop.

Also how difficult do you think it will be to teach an “old dog new ticks”? Our one dog is almost 9 years old, and our other is still a pup about 7 mo. old.

We tell them no when we are home, but they don’t seem to be getting the point. And what to do when we are not home? Sometimes (not always) we are gone to long (10-12 hrs) to lock them inside the whole day (And they still bark, just not as much indoors).
It was not as bad before our new neighbors, who have 4 kids. So our puppy constantly barks at them through the fence. This is why the barking was “brought to our attention”.
Dragon: Your idea sounds great! I only have one problem, what do we do when we are not home to tell them to stop barking?

Any websites to create virtual pets without using my email?

Virtuoso Violinist asked:

Any websites to create virtual pets without using my email?
I don’t want to share my email or make a “junk email” but really want a virtual pet (since I can’t have one because of my allergies). So does anybody know any websites you can make a virtual pet for no email?

What do you feed your carniverous pets?

brevejunkie asked:

This is a legitimate question. I can assure you I’m not trying to be flippant or smart by asking it. For all vegans, do you feed your pets (mainly cats and dogs) traditional pet food made with meat? I’m mainly curious to receive answers from vegans who choose to be vegan because they think it’s cruel to kill animals. Part two (for those of you who feed your pets regular old dog/cat food): Why is it OK to kill animals for your pets to eat, but not for you to eat? Don’t you think that the chickens and lambs and ducks and whatever other animals they use to make pet food are treated just as badly as animals that people eat? Please don’t take offense…I’m just curious. Thanks for all replies!
