What are these scabs on my dogs skin?

He is a 70 pound pitbull mix and only this summer while brushing him or petting him- i keep finding these large(in height not width) black scabs yet if you pull them off there is just a red area underneath, no blood, puss or any sort of infection. Why does he keep getting these seemingly out of nowhere? so far he has gotten three, one between his shoulder blades, one almost the same spot but further down the back, and another in the middle of the back on near the spine. He is a little over 1 and a half years old and has a shiny, red/tan coat which sheds a bunch but has never had scabs. He has also always itched ALOT, never breaking the skin but biting and itching everywhere. I also treat him monthly with K9 Advantix so it shouldn't be anything like that as he is mostly an inside dog.

Is a regular Flea and tick collar as effective?

what is the best defogger to kill ticks and fleas and is not harmful for my 8 pound dog?

I tried to rule out what might be caused this change and below is what I came up with
Last night before his bedtime, I applied one tube of K9 Advantix on him and in the middle of night I caught him shaking his leg while asleep. (Never happen before)
He saw a ghost.
What is going on with him? No one abuses him.

What to apply when fleas resistant to Frontline Plus and dog allergic to Advantix?

Applied Frontline Plus every month since a pup (21 months old) and recently added a flea collar. The past two days two ticks were also taken off, although not engorged, but had to pull off. Treated yard three times every three weeks and still gets a few fleas. No fleas in house. Everyone in town complaining about flea problem. Stopped walking her and she is very unhappy. Any ideas of what I could put on her to keep fleas off when I walk he? K9 Advantix worked the best when tried, but dog highly allergic and had to wash it off. I've researched the web every day and can't seem to find any answers. Any incite would be appreciated.
